Who will win the World Cup 2023?

The ICC Men’s 2023 ODI World Cup is not far away from commencing in India, where the tournament will take place after a gap of 12 long years. The ODI World Cup was last played in India in 2011, the same year when the hosts were also crowned World Champions at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 2nd April. India took on Sri Lanka in the World Cup final and emerged victorious by 6 wickets.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is set to start at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 5th October where New Zealand will lock horns with defending champions England at 2:00 pm IST. As the anticipation for the 2023 World Cup soars higher and higher, Sportsbuzz takes a look at the favorite's to lift the coveted cricket trophy this year, along with providing you with fiery cricket updates and sports news.

After a disappointing run at the 2022 T20 World Cup, which saw the Men in Blue getting knocked out in the semi-final by England, the hosts will give it their all to bring the trophy home after 12 long years. Hence, the hosts India are one of the favourites to lift the ICC Men’s 2023 ODI World Cup trophy. India are currently touring the West Indies for a 2-match Test series, which will then be followed by a 3-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. India cricket bagged a dominant victory over the West Indies in the first test by an innings and 141 runs and will look to continue their dominant run of form against the Men in Maroon during the remainder of their tour as well. Not only that, India are ranked 3rd on the ICC Men’s ODI Team rankings with 3,807 points and a rating of 115.

Along with India, 5-time World Cup champions Australia cannot be ruled out of the list of favourites to lift the 2023 ODI World Cup trophy whatsoever. They won the World Cup in 2015 and are the favourites to lift the trophy every time the World Cup comes around. The Aussies are in splendid form right now, leading the ongoing Ashes by 2-1. Australia are placed on the top of the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings at the moment, with 2,714 points, and a rating of 118. With top-class players like Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green and Pat Cummins, this Australian team will not be easy to defeat. We can certainly expect to see them at their very best in October when the World Cup commences.

And last but not the least, the defending champions England are certainly the favourites to lift the World Cup trophy this time as well. Having recently won the 2022 T20 World Cup on Australia soil, this English team is surely going to bring a lot of firepower in the form of some lethal batsmen and fiery bowlers to India in October. The English team will be led by none other than Jos “the boss” Buttler for this World Cup, which will also be the very first time Buttler will be captaining England at the ODI World Cup. Courtesy of a major boost of confidence after lifting the 2022 T20 World Cup, England will look to clinch the ODI World Cup trophy as well. The team is ranked 5th on the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings with 2,426 points and a rating of 101.

In conclusion, SportsBuzz predicts hosts India, 5-time champs Australia, and defending champions England as the favourites to lift the ICC Men’s 2023 ODI World Cup.
